External Data Views (EDV)

AssetWise Inspections allows integration with other systems through an Application Programming Interface (API). It is a read only method to access and display data. All data is provided by the user and entered into AssetWise Inspections to display the desired data.

To edit an existing external data view, click the symbol for the desired external data view. The process will be very similar to creating a new EDV as described below.

  • Create New External Data View – To create a new external data view, click the Create button in the top right corner of the screen.
  • General Tab:
    • Name – The Name textbox is a mandatory field, as denoted by the *. It is used to name the external data view. This will be an identifier for where data will be pulled from.
    • Description – The Description textbox is used to enter more details about the external data view if desired.
    • Web Service URL – The Web Service URL textbox is a mandatory field, as denoted by the *. Enter the URL information for where data will be pulled from.
  • URL Variables Tab:
    • The URL Variables tab builds the parameters for the agency API to connect to an external system and pull data into AssetWise Inspections. An agency API developer can provide information for the configuration based on Bentley's External Data View specifications. Please contact Bentley support for assistance.
  • HTTP Headers Tab:
    • The HTTP Headers tab allows an agency to further set up a connection string defined by the agency's API. An agency API developer can provide information for the configuration based on Bentley's External Data View specifications.

  • Display Properties Tab:
    • Export To Excel Enabled – The Export To Excel Enabled dropdown determines whether a button is displayed to export the data to excel.
    • Export to JSON Enabled – The Export to JSON Enabled dropdown determines whether a button is displayed to export the data in JSON format.
    • Page Size – The Page Size textbox determines how many rows of data display in the grid of the external data view before paging begins.
      • Once the new external data view is saved, two new tabs will appear to allow the admin to determine what asset types the external data view will be displayed for as well as what roles can access the external data view on assets.
  • Asset Types Tab:
    • The Asset Types tab allows admins to select which asset types the external data view will display information for on the asset details screen.
  • Role Security Tab:
    • The Role Security tab allows admins to select which roles can access and view the external data views for assets.
